Geology & Volcanoes Lanzarote

The geological history of Lanzarote

Fourteen million years ago, volcanoes formed on a fault line to the west of what would become the African continent. The island’s geography is varied: rounded hillsides, barrancos (ravines), malpais (lava fields), expanses of dark ash (La Geria) and volcanic cones. Due to their geological composition, whether eruptive or mainly composed of ash, they each have a colour ranging from orange-red to dark grey.

The poetic aspect is accentuated by the sunlight and the shadows cast by the rare clouds flying over the island. Thus, everyone will find a certain beauty that is constantly renewed.
